As part of tradition, the PTA Board, together with the Alumni Board donated medicines and medial equipments to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center - Children's Ward on the occassion of Fr. Ernesto Javier's birthday last October 4, 2008.
VSMMC is one of the hospitals here in Cebu where the poorest of poor in our community and nearby provinces bring their sick. Many, if not most, cannot even aford the very basic medicines. They have to beg, borrow, and depend on the generosity of family and friends. In the words of Fr. Javier, "Even if you have a million pesos, it would still not be enough." This is the plight of the patients there.
In the course of our visit, we discovered that Sacred Heart Shool has several alumni serving this institution. Chief of Clini Dr. Antonie Roque Paradela, who has served for more than 15 years, is from Class '73. Dr. Enrique Tenazas is from Class '75. Dr. Dondi Arcenas is from Class '77. And there may be more of them.
This bit of news should be an inspiration to all of us, alumni, students, and parents of Sacred Heart, that we can, if we choose to, and in our own ways, contribute to the well being of our fellowmen as these alumni have done.
